It’s not unusual for the dimly lit interior of a Gaucho restaurant to be filled with the roar of laughter and clattering glasses. Last Sunday however, a few stranger sounds could be heard coming from their Hampstead branch in the form of the odd ‘woof’ and plenty ‘awwwwws’.
Lucky mutts we are, George and I had the absolute pleasure of popping along to Gaucho Hampstead’s Popup Cinema at Doggy Sunday last weekend. This monthly gathering of people and their pups takes dog-friendly to a whole new level.
Packed with over 40 pooches from poodles to pugs and puppies – happy hounds of all shapes and sizes were out in their Sunday best for a day of food, fun and frolics.
Now I’ve dined at Gaucho in the past but I can’t say I’ve ever been welcomed with a red carpet. Don’t worry, I wasn’t under any illusion the star treatment was for me – it was the canine’s taking centre stage at this glorious gathering. George was kissed, cuddled and nearly stolen by the gushing Gaucho staff who had the patience of saints dealing with a restaurant full of rowdy pups.
Us pampered people were treated to a three course meal including those lovely cheesey buns I’m so obsessed with and Gaucho’s infamously mouth-watering Argentinian steak – perfect sunday fodder. For the pooches it was homemade chicken empanadas and plenty of nutritious treats from Billy + Margot served up in a personalised bowl, of course.
Doggy Sunday is on the first Sunday of every month at Gaucho’s Hampstead Restaurant, with a different theme every month. The day includes a three course meal including Argentinian steak for humans and plenty of treats for hounds. £5 for every dog is donated to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
