The lovely Anna Barnett from House of Holland talks to StyleTails about her three obsessions – Food, Fashion and Ted…her Kerry Blue Terrier (not necessarily in that order).
Despite describing her style as “slightly art teacher”, Anna Barnett is no fashion fool. I arrived at her ridiculously lovely home in Hackney to find her donning a neon houndstooth coat from the House of Holland AW12 Collection (on a Saturday morning no less), whilst cradling her Kerry Blue Terrier Ted like a small (but rather large) baby. No stranger to the fashion industry, Ted has already been the inspiration for the House of Holland Harris Tweed ‘Ted’ dog coat and as it turns out is just as stupendously photographic as Anna herself.
You’re International Sales Manager at House of Holland. How did you land that job?
I interned at MTV when I was 18 and started out in TV production. I then worked co-ordinating all the social events, getting to travel loads ended up booking for the MTV EMA’s. After that, I went on to book talent book for T4 and then somehow ended up PAing for Kelly Osbourne for a year before finally working for Henry. We were friends first – I’d always been into fashion and House of Holland was doing so many exciting things that it seemed like such a good opportunity and here I am three years later.
House of Holland has become the brand of choice for all the cool kids. What do you think it is about the label that people love?
Henry does the best statement pieces. Everything always has a fun, cheeky element to it which is his personality through and through. Plus I love that he manages to do both feminine girly pieces and full on out-there pieces and brings it together in one collection. He’s always brave with the colours and patterns and somehow manages to make you love everything, every time.
What is your favourite item from the Pre SS13 collection and why?
It has to be the neon and pale pink stripe jacquard party frock. Not one girl that tried this on during sales didn’t love it. I have the multi coloured striped version from the last pre collection and I’m obsessed with it. It’s bright, has a full skirt, it’s every girls dream dress.
House of Holland is such a fun brand. What is the most surreal thing that’s happened since you’ve been there?
Probably seeing Henry turn into a proper celeb. He’s just filmed a TV show with Rhianna and Nicola Roberts.
What’s been your best memory since working at House of Holland?
Getting to take the collection to Singapore and putting on the show there. So exciting and amazing to see how it translates. Or maybe just every show day. We’re all really good friends so despite the stress, we all manage to laugh our way through it….probably more in a deliriously tired/excited way.
Describe your own style in 3 words?
Slightly art teacher
You’re obsessed with food and launched foody blog http://getinmygob.blogspot.co.uk/. What do you love about cooking and what is your best piece of cooking advice for keen chefs?
I mainly love the eating bit of cooking!! My best advice would be to cook with confidence and think about what flavours actually work together. Try new things….oh and always taste what you’re cooking the whole way through so you can make sure you’re on track. Everyone can cook and it doesn’t have to be neat.
QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS – TED:
You were the inspiration for the House of Holland Harris tweed ‘Ted’ coat. What was your reaction to the coat and can you tell us if there are there plans for more doggie pieces next season?
I don’t like wearing coats actually but the House of Holland Harris tweed dog coat was particularly nice. Maybe a bit feminine for me – I’m a handsome male doggy! They’re always doing special new things, there will definitely be more dog coats to come.
Tell us about your favourite places in London?
I just like parks!! Victoria Park, the canal where I can chase cyclists and bark. I’m allowed in the Cat and Mutton, Royal Oak, Spurstow, Prince Arthur, The Hemingway, Royal Inn on the Park but I try and avoid them all, if we stop anywhere it’s the Pavilion cafe in Victoria park. They have dog bowls and its easy for me to get in the water there.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
George Clooney because I’m so handsome and going grey, that’s what they tell me.
What’s your favourite treat?
Roast dinners, carrots and broccoli, bones, chicken, peas and ice cubes.
What’s Anna’s worst habit?
Mamma likes to eat while she cooks, she should treat me more instead! I’m a very patient and I concentrate lots when she’s cooking.
Who’s your ideal woman and why?
I have my sexy blanket, no need for ladies.
He’s easily pleased…………………….
